At the Highland Environmental Forum meeting September 2017 Plastic@Bay presented data we collected and processed from our marine plastic bin at Balnakeil Beach.
‘Waves of plastic in sparsely populated NW Sutherland: Quantities, origins, what we do and what we can do’
can be downloaded from the Highland Environmental Forum Website here.
Julien gave an excellent talk highlighting plastic pollution problems specific to the North West Highlands such as discarded Fishing Ropes Nets and their Components (FRNCs), and accumulation of plastic pollution of NW-SE orientated beaches and coves.
At this meeting it was decided to form a working group devoted to tackling Marine Litter in the North West Highlands. The Highland Environmental Forum supported by the Scottish Natural Heritage will facilitate and organise future meeting, members of this working group come from a wide range of environmental groups, and educational facilities throughout the Highlands, such as The Marine Conservation Society, The John Muir Trust, Living Seas NW Highlands, Sea Change Wester Ross, The Scottish Coastal Cleanup Project, KIMO, The Moray Firth Partnership, local primary and secondary school teachers, and educational institutions.
Please let me know if I have missed anyone and I will add you in.
